Give me an inch of progress and I’ll just be grateful!
It’s been a few potatoes since the last post (can you tell I have leftover Thanksgiving mashed potatoes on my mind?), but there’s been quite a bit of progress! Not much to write about; instead, I’ll let the pictures tell most of the story. We have walls! And paint! And lights! AND a front door!! The cabinets arrived a few days ago and installation is nearly complete. I watched as one of the cabinets was retrofitted for the apron sink, realizing that the sink is roughly the same width as my entire countertop in the RV. Reason #433 why I hate cooking right now. Flooring is in the house and acclimating to temperature/altitude so there won’t be any problems during/after installation. Countertop measuring in scheduled. Siding installation begins next week and I’ve started picking out some of our last finishing touches, like bathroom hardware. We’re so close to completion!
Drywall hung, taped, and mudded
Painting completed. Hard to catch the colors just right in some of the rooms when we have grey days and no working indoor lights yet. But the paints are a sunny cream color in the living areas and bedrooms, and a light grey in the bathrooms and kitchen.
Once the painting was finished, some of the electrical trim work began. All of the recessed LEDs are in! I love having lots of light and, in Washington, prolific interior lighting is important for me during the winter.
Next came the new front door. It was one of the longest wait periods on an ordered item. We fell in love with this door when we saw it on a remodeled home we considered purchasing in Olympia last year. It’s beautiful and seriously sturdy!
When the cabinets were delivered, I flitted between corners of the house watching in excitement but sure to stay out of the way. I could really only see one of the cabinets because they were well wrapped for protection. But the one I could see was the lower corner cabinet with my most favorite option — a Lazy Susan. Today, the installer began his work and I went in to watch as they custom cut the cabinet to fit the stainless steel apron sink and while I watched, I got curious about the drawers. So I tried to pull one out, which wasn’t easy with no handles, and it was really stiff. Some of it is just that they are new, but mostly, it’s because we somehow got the quiet-close option on them! Either the contractor forgot (which is unlikely) that we didn’t want to pay the extra money for quiet-close or… I don’t know, but they are what they are and I luuuv them! I’m also very pleased with the grey color of the lower cabinets. It was a bit of a gamble because I had three sample cabinet doors and then only a picture of the fourth option. The picture seemed much closer to what I’d been picturing in my mind, so I went for it. And they are just what I wanted.
With the cabinets almost finished, the flooring can begin soon. There’s probably a bit more work on electrical trim that will happen first because I know the workers want to have good lighting for laying the floor. We’re so close! Maybe I will take that inch and turn it into a mile!
Wow, wow, wow.
Thanks for sharing! I’m so excited and it’s not even mine!!! Everything looks beautiful! It looks like you will have so much storage in the kitchen too. Ya know what they say…”Good things come to those who wait!” 🙂
I’m going to utilize every inch of space possible 🙂
We absolutely love seeing the progress! The front door is beautiful!!! You are doing a lovely job – my parents are smiling down on you : )
I hope they are!
Can definitely tell it’s coming together – excellent choice in colors, cabinets and walls. Light colors can make up the difference of an overcast day, plus all the planned lighting! Looking good!!!
The recessed lights are working now and it’s super bright inside! I love it; Pat may think it’s a bit too much light, though. But there are options instead of using the full lighting all the time, so it will be fine 🙂
I am so excited for both of you. I have been praying you will be in your home by Christmas.
If it is OK, may I stop by this weel?
You are welcome to stop by any time!
